Capoeira Quinto Sol was formed by Eduardo Galvan in the southwest in 1999. After many years of teaching Capoeira at
NMSU he expended the group to El Paso, Texas. The group for years has taught Capoeira to people of all ages and puts
on a cultural show every year. Since expanding to El Paso, Capoeira Quinto Sol has done performances at multiple
places around the city. Presently Capoeira Quinto Sol is working on training Capoeiristas in order to get the
membership continuously growing. Capoeira Quinto Sol hopes to be able to open a cultural Center and offer El Paso a
touch of Brazilian culture that is not currently available. Capoeira Quinto Sol would like to have a full time paid Mestre
of Capoeira in our own building to house the cultural center. The cultural center will offer Capoeira instruction, as well
as, Maculele, Samba dance, Samba drumming, and Portuguese classes. We also would like to organize a yearly
multi-cultural show and set up yearly trips to Brazil, (the birth place of Capoeira). We hope the center will be a place
where under privileged kids as well as participants of all ages can gather in a safe and friendly atmosphere and expand
the understanding of cultures in order to nourish peace and acceptance of people of all cultures, races, faiths, and
creeds.
